Nubian Social System
The Nubian social class system stayed the same for about 1000 years, and they may have been the first people to have a dictator. The highest on this social food chain is the all powerful king/queen who acts as a gods to his/her citizens. The king owns all the land and controls the people. Under the almighty king are the priests and scribes who basically chose the citizen social class. After the priests and scribes came the average citizen. The average Nubian citizens were normally farmers, blacksmiths, leatherworkers, merchants, and fishermen. Under the average citizen was the slaves and peasants. These people worked for no pay or very little and did all the hard work around the kingdom. Peasants had a slight advantage over slaves beacause peasants were able to make money. Slaves jobs were hard labor (mostly outside jobs). The peasant worked as low pay farmers or they do the job nobody else would. These are the roles of the social pyramid in ancient Nubia.
