Queen Candace

Nubians making a sacrifice to thier rulers
Queen Candace also known as Candace of Meroe (a city in ancient Nubia) ruled over Meroe in the times of Alexander the Great 350 - 335 BC. The name Candace actually comes from the word Kentake meaning "queen". Legend says that Queen Candace acually defeated Alexander the Great during his conquest of Africa. This is only a legend because Alexander never interfeared with the Nubians. She was an independant ruler as she didn't marry. She was one of the ancient worlds greatest military generals.
Taharqa/Taharka

King Taharka
Taharka was the King of Nubia from 710 BC - 664 BC. As a young king at the age of 16 King Taharka led armies to invade the Assyrians in the defence of his ally Isreal. Taharka ruled over one of the largest civilizations in Africa throughout his 25 year reign and the only power close to his was the armies of Assyria. Assyria and Nubia contiually battled throughout his rule over Nubia. Taharka had legendary buildings built under his rule like the great temple at Gebel Barkal in the Sudan. The temple was built out of carved rocks decorated with large images and statues of King Taharka. The King is still honored to this day at the temple and in history.
Queen Nefertari

Queen Nefertari
Queen Nefertari was a Nubian Queen of Egypt from 1292 BC - 1225 BC. This queen is known for her marrige with Rameses II of Egypt (one of the last great pharaohs of Egypt). An account says that she married for the peace of Egypt and Nubia. This ancient love affair brought the 100 year war between Egypt and Nubia to an end. To this day the queen is remembered in monuments and history for her actions. Rameses II actually built the Abu Simbel, the largest monument built, for his wife and symbolized peace between the two great nations of Nubia/Kush and Egypt.
Queen Tiye

Queen Tiye
Queen Tiye anouther Nubian Queen of Egypt from 1415 BC - 1340 BC. Like Queen Nefertari, Queen Tiye captured the love of a young Egyptian pharaoh named Amenhotep IIl and changed the course of history by being the first Nubian to marry an Egyptian pharaoh. She was known for her exeptional beauty and intelligence. This queen took her military to the heart and made sure there was a suitable military for her use.
King Piye
King Piye ruled around 700 BC. He is known for his conquest of Egypt. He thought the way he could make Egypt better was to conquer them. He thought of Egypt as the magnificent pyramid builders that lost its way. King Piye wasn't the ruler over all of Nubia but his own kingdom of it. Piye used the Nile to transport his soldiers when he conquered Egypt.
